Homemade Macaroni and Cheese

Hey everyone, my name is Sarah and this possibly could be the biggest day of my life. I get the privilege to have one of my family recipes posted on Sweet Basil!! Someday I hope to aspire to the level of Carrian’s greatness. But I know it’s just one recipe at a time. (Oh, aren’t you so funny, Sarah!)  So here’s the first: Homemade Macoroni and Cheese…yes, please! This is a recipe that’s been floating around our family for a little bit and with some tweaking has become one of our favorites–all of the comforts of the classic Kraft, but healthier and more flavor. Enjoy!

Homemade Macaroni and Cheese
Recipe By Sarah Card

3 Tbsp. butter
3 Tbsp. flour
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Dash of cayenne
1 qt jar tomatoes
2 c. grated cheese
2 c. cooked macaroni

The toppings:
6 slices of bacon, cooked and cut into small pieces
3/4 c. bread crumbs
2 T. butter
1/4 c. Parmesan

Melt 3 T. butter in pan, blend in flour and seasonings. Add tomatoes and cook until mixture thickens. Add cheese and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat and add Worchestershire and macaroni. Put in a 2 qt. (8×8) casserole dish. Sprinkle with bacon, bread crumb mixture (combine 2 Tbs butter and the bread crumbs, melt together in a separate pan. Then add the Parmesan cheese. Cook until the butter is melted. Remove from heat.), and cheese on top. Bake 375 degrees 25-30 minutes. Deliciousness.

The picture shows wheat noodles, which make the dish quite tasty. You can change up a lot of things from the noodles to the cheeses. I hope you all enjoy!
