Spring Cleaning with My Horrible Allergies and $100 to giveaway!

Oh my holy spring cleaning.
I consider myself a clean person, even if the house isn’t always “picked up” at different times during the day. I’m not a crazy person, but I do believe that a clean home is more happy and peaceful. I like to do the regular cleaning, and then throughout the month I’ll tackle different things like baseboards, ceiling fans etc.
Once spring hits I really get into the cleaning. I mean, I clean everything. I like to air everything out, get rid of the bad air and germs, and start the spring off fresh and bright. I clean out the closets, getting rid of old clothes, the drawers, cupboards, baseboards, vents, fans, blinds, etc, etc. It feels great to de-junk, and get everything super clean.
I know it’s quite the task to tackle, but two or three days devoted to working hard leads to us feeling so good in our home for the next few months. I really can’t express how much more peaceful and relaxing a clean home is. I bet some of you think the mess doesn’t bother you, but it does weigh you down more than you realize.
Here’s the problem: I have MAJOR allergies. Name it, and I’m probably allergic. It is torture to dust and especially to spring clean. I sneeze my head off for days, and then it turns into a sinus infection. WITHOUT FAIL. Every darn time. Except this year.

I started my spring cleaning yesterday, and while I still have to tackle one closet and the pantry, I’m pretty much done. This year I was asked by BlogHer and Similasan to try something a little different for my allergies, Similasan’s Nasal Allergy Relief. I was sent some to try out and I started off my cleaning by using some of this nasal mist and then again throughout the cleaning as needed.
If you know me, you know nothing works with my allergies, and while this did not “cure” my allergies it did control my symptoms.
I realize not many nasal sprays are worth it, but I am so grateful to not only have made it through cleaning, but I did not get sick after all of that spring cleaning. Not at all. Love that!
The nasal mist is homeopathic, which is awesome, and I have a few neighbors who will be so excited to hear that. It works with your own body to relieve the symptoms like itchy, runny, sneezy noses, post nasal drip, etc.
Similasan Nasal Allergy Relief nasal mist is chemical and preservative free, and it offers relief without the worry of reliance. It is produced to the highest standards in Switzerland and uses only 100% all natural ingredients. Love that!! In fact, it’s one of the only medicated preservative free nasal decongestants available.
Want to buy your own? Similasan is available at your local Walgreens.
Want to win $100 Visa gift card?! I bet you do, not only to buy your own Similasan, but who couldn’t use a little extra money right now?

  9. I like to change things around so that everything looks fresh and new. I'm planning to get a new slipcover for my couch which will be a totally different color. Due to some health concerns I can't do an all day marathon cleaning any more so I try to do one room at a time and divide that up into small increments.

  13. I put away winter things like coats and bring out the spring stuff. I enjoy making a spring cleaning list. Something about springtime makes me want to get our house clean and fresh. Of course, the list making is a lot more fun than the actual cleaning is.

  14. My favorite thing – What I get so excited to do all winter – to prepare for spring is to start my seeds for plants for my garden. I have a great set up in my basement and I've got a quite a green thumb and can start almost anything from seed to plant. I start upwards of 250 plants from seed each spring and I love to watch them sprout and grow. They are like my babies.

I also take down the blinds and valances and wash them. Time to change out our drawers to and put away sweaters and bring out the shorts.

  36. Since spring only lasts about five minutes in the South, there's not much to get ready for. But I can tell the extreme shifts in temperature really do a number on my sinuses! I have been using a saline inhaler to see if that will help. Too early to tell, but I like “natural” remedies instead of …er… “unnatural” ones. So I'd definitely be willing to give Similasan a try!

Spring cleaning is something that is more in our thought process at this point in life rather in reality! It's more pull weeds, get mulch, get vegetable garden ready, herb garden ready and clean up those canning jars!!!!

I dont really get allergies, but oh, my does my son! I will definitely try this product! Especially if it is over the counter!

  52. Spring cleaning: starts with mowing the lawn, weeding the flower beds, laying some mulch, opening the windows and shutting the windows, vacumming over and over-the dust off everything from the floor to the ceiling, and much much more..
But usually if the weather is warm I am outside, with runny nose and sneezing and all.. Including the old Elm tree over my yard that rains pollen. I usually keep a box of tissues close by.. To me Spring cleaning means getting my flower beds ready….

Other than the things you mentioned like cleaning out the closet and dusting places that usually get left behind, I like to steam clean the carpet (it usually only gets vacuumed) and leave ALL the windows open all the time!! I love when the breeze comes in!

I don't have allergies, but my son does. I feel for you and am glad that the nose spray is offering you relief.

  69. Spring cleaning is a nightmare for me too. I am also allergic to just about everything. Since I am currently pregnant most allergy stuff is off limits. This year I started by making my list about a week in advance. I picked to do it all in two mornings. My almost 3 year old has preschool 2 mornings a week from 9-1230. That was my window. I opened all the windows in the house I began the process. I was surprising relaxing and made me clean out stuff and prepare for the upcoming baby!

  74. I like to do a little at a time. I make a list of small Spring Cleaning chores – 15-20 minute tasks. Then I pick one to do every night after work. On the weekends, I fit several into a day. By the end of two weeks, the house is fresh and I haven't “lost” a whole weekend.
