Feeling Beautiful

I am perfectly aware that I am not old by any means, however these last two years I am feeling older. I am not sure what it is. I guess early twenties still feel like you are still on the threshold of life. The more years you pack on the more you realize that you are in real life, and everything isn’t the same as it used to be. I will say that I do feel more confident than I was as a teenager, but I’m shocked every day by how much longer and harder I have to workout, eat right etc. I don’t love to be up all night and sleep until noon and I certainly prefer to be with family more than anyone else. I’ve also noticed that my skin, especially here in Utah is not as silky and young anymore. Again, it’s not like I’m on my deathbed, but I can see the difference. Age is not all that scary to me yet. I believe that at every age you can feel beautiful, have beautiful skin and have a general sense of well being.

As I’ve become more aware of myself, especially as a mother, I’ve realized that I need a little “me” time. It’s not just “5 minutes peace” (remember that book? The elephant mother that couldn’t do a single thing without the kids trailing after her.) it’s about having a little time to remember who I am, take care of my body, mind and spirit, because in the end I become a better person to be around, and certainly a better wife and mother.

I choose to have me time in a few ways. I love to read. I love sitting down with a good book and doing nothing. I just read, “Unbroken”, and am almost done with, “No one Can Take Your Place”, by Sheri L Dew. I also love a good work out. It clears my mind, gets my heart pumping and I literally feel better after doing it. I feel like I’ve followed through, accomplished something and become a little better, stronger, leaner for doing it. Lastly, I love a good, hot shower. Yup, no baths for me. I hate them. I am a shower girl. I love a long leisurely shower with no interruptions. And guess what, I’ve found a body wash that I love. It gives you visibly beautiful skin, so not only is the shower beneficial to my mind, but as I’m getting older I love to have found something in my every day routine that makes me feel more confident about my skin.
