Two Ingredient thin mint oreos that are so addicting I had to hide them from myself. For. Real. ohsweetbasil.com-4

Oh ya know, sometimes you just have to make your oreos taste like thin mint cookies and thus create the best blasted cookie ever and it only took 2 ingredients. No biggie. I’m a genius. And someone else probably did it already and I didn’t see it, but don’t tell me if they did so I can still feel like the coolest mom to ever rock these fuzzy hospital socks I’m chillin’ in right now. Yes, I really am and no, I’m not in the hospital. I just have a lot of these things from when I was in the hospital so I like to rock them. And eat thin mint oreos.

thin mint oreos are our new addiction! You have to try these! ohsweetbasil.com

Growing up my mom, gosh she’s going to die when she reads this, always wore muumuus on Sunday. I’m actually laughing out loud as I type this. Oh man, I can picture her standing at the stove whipping up dinner with that muumuu. Gosh, my mom is the coolest. I love that she has never cared about being perfect, or a total fashionista. She has always cared far more about the heart than anything else. Women are each other’s worst enemies when in fact we should be caring more about giving than competing. I love this quote and the older I get the more I realize that it is my mother to a T.

I’m not sure why the dang graphic scooted over so I apologize that it’s crooked. But isn’t that quote the best? I know everyone says that their mom is the best, and I believe all are wonderful, but a mom like that, now that’s a good one. My mom was never worried about not having her makeup on if a friend stopped by, or having us kids all perfectly dressed, bows, accessorized etc. She cared about giving. In fact, she mostly cared about giving without anyone ever knowing. Which, in my opinion of course, is the best kind there is.

I’m the mom that pretty much never wears makeup unless we are going out (and I am not talking about leaving the house) or going to church, and I let my kids play and get messy without worrying about their hair or clothes being perfectly styled. But I still occasionally feel bad around the friends that need that perfection. I had to decide, do I want to be known for my perfectly cute family or my willingness to work regardless of how hard it can be sometimes? (Unless it’s these cookies then just melt the andes, dip the cookies and let dry!)

I’m working on it all. It takes time. Mom has taught me to care more about the inside than the outside and as you’ll find out in another post, my dad taught me more about makeup than anyone else. Stay tuned for that one. So here’s to mom’s muumuus, the fact that she would wear them to be comfortable on Sunday’s while she wrote little notes to people who may need one, cooked meals for those in need, or created little crafts for someone that needed cheering up. Here’s to the muumuu wearing mama that brought kids home from church with her, forgoing naptime to care for little one’s who had to have a meeting after church. Here’s to a mama that attended to everyone else before herself and by doing so found more and peace within herself than those who were constantly looking to find it by only worrying about themselves. Generosity and humility have more hold on our inner peace than we realize.
