A snack mix recipe made with cereal, pretzels, oyster crackers, Cheez-Its, and peanuts coated in a savory ranch seasoning blend

What is it about a big bowl of snack mix that’s so impossible to resist? It could be right after a full meal, or even dessert, and the second I spot a bowl filled with something salty, crunchy, or sweet, like this ranch slow cooker Chex mix, all bets are off. Something in me just has to reach in for a handful. Every. Single. Time.

The other day, I made a quick Walmart run with my youngest to grab party supplies, hoping for just one stop. While there, I spotted oyster crackers, something my oldest daughter had been asking for, but I kept forgetting. I tossed them in along with some Cheez-Its and pretzels on sale. Then I remembered that I had a roll of Glad® Press’n Seal® and knew I could turn these snacks into a slow cooker mix for the party.

A crock put full of Chex, pretzels, oyster crackers, Cheez-Its, and peanuts coated in a savory ranch seasoning blend. The best chex mix recipe!

Slow Cookers For Parties

That is my approach to party prep. I do as much ahead of time as possible so the day of the event is stress-free and enjoyable. The slow cooker lets me set it and forget it while the Press’n Seal keeps everything fresh and mess-free.

Grab a packet of Hidden Valley® Ranch, the one you probably still have from our 3-ingredient slow cooker roast, and mix it with sugar, Karo syrup, oil, and Worcestershire sauce. This combination creates a crunchy, savory coating that really takes the snack mix to the next level. Your guests will love it.

  • Worcestershire sauce: Adds deep umami flavor and a subtle zing.
  • Karo syrup: Offers a hint of sweetness to balance the salty mix.
  • Sugar: Enhances flavor and ties the seasoning together.
  • Corn Chex cereal: A light, crunchy base that holds up to coating.
  • Mini pretzels: Adds a salty crunch and satisfying texture.
  • Oyster crackers: Buttery, crisp bites that soak up flavor.
  • Cheez-It crackers: Cheesy, salty crunch that boosts overall flavor.
  • Dry-roasted lightly salted peanuts: Nutty, crunchy addition with a touch of salt.

This recipe is easy to customize based on what you love or have on hand. Some of my favorite swaps include mixed nuts with almonds, cashews, and pecans, bagel chips, Wheat Chex, Rice Chex, or even Goldfish crackers for a playful twist. Want a little kick? Add a splash of your favorite hot sauce to turn up the heat.

Snack Mix in the Oven

Preheat your oven to 250°F to ensure a low and slow bake that crisps the mix without burning it. Spread the coated cereal mixture evenly onto a large, rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil. Bake for about 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes to ensure even toasting and prevent any pieces from getting too dark.

Once golden and crisp, remove the mix from the oven and let it cool completely before serving or storing. This oven method gives the Chex mix a perfectly crunchy texture and makes your kitchen smell amazing.

This snack mix recipe blends crispy Chex, salty pretzels, buttery oyster crackers, cheesy Cheez-Its, and crunchy peanuts for the perfect bite.

How to Store This Snack Mix

Let the Chex Mix cool completely, then store it in an airtight container or ziploc bag. Keep it in a cool, dry place for up to one week. If you live in a humid area, add a paper towel to the container to help absorb moisture. You can also freeze Chex Mix for up to one month, just let it come to room temperature before serving.

A crunchy, savory mix of Chex cereal, pretzels, oyster crackers, Cheez-Its, and peanuts tossed in zesty ranch seasoning.

You’ll find yourself snacking on this irresistible Chex mix all day long before your guests even arrive! Consider this your friendly warning! Better hide it somewhere out of reach so you don’t eat the whole batch yourself.
