We love our snacks, especially this Marshmallow Popcorn, we can’t stop eating it! Butter, brown sugar and marshmallows melted into perfection and tossed with hot, salty popcorn. Need I say more?
The hubs made us watch Star Wars the other night when it was on tv. I mean, it’s good, but I don’t have the desire to watch 4 hours of aliens. Once is good enough for me. I made his favorite popcorn with brown sugar and marshmallows and actually I couldn’t stop eating it either!! This is my friend, Stephanie’s recipe and we weren’t huge popcorn people til we had this. It’s that good! Oh, popcorn, you really sucked us in.
So pretty much you must try this marshmallow popcorn! In fact, you don’t even have to stick to plain marshmallows, marshmallow popcorn is awesome with all sorts of flavors. We made one with pumpkin spice marshmallows that is perfect for the holidays and the kids think it’s fun that it turns out a little orange.
Ingredients Needed for Marshmallow Popcorn
A snack recipe that you only need 4 ingredients for is right up my alley! Here is your ingredient list:
- Mini Marshmallows
- Brown Sugar
- Butter
- Low Fat Popcorn
How to Make Marshmallow Popcorn
My kids love this sticky popcorn snack, and it’s seriously the easiest thing to make. It’s just a few simple steps:
- Pop the popcorn according to the package instructions.
- Combine the rest of the ingredients in a microwave safe bowl and melt in 30 second increments. Continue until everything melts and comes together smoothly.
- Pour over the popcorn and stir gently to combine.
How Much Popcorn Do You Need?
One bag of microwave popcorn has about 5 tablespoons of popcorn kernels which makes 10 – 11 cups of popped popcorn. So you can pop your own popcorn using 5 tablespoons of kernels or buy pre-popped popcorn and use 10 – 11 cups.
Is Popcorn Gluten Free?
Corn is a whole grain food.
All varieties, including pop corn are gluten free.
Are Marshmallows Gluten Free?
Marshmallows are made from water, sugar and gelatin.
Marshmallows are completely gluten free.
Can You Pop Dried Sweet Corn?
Sweet corn is not the same as the corn you pop.
Pop corn is a specific type of corn that, due to moisture within the kernel, will pop when heated.
Sweet corn will not pop, even when dried.
How Long Does Marshmallow Popcorn Keep?
We have never once had leftovers, but if you store it in an airtight container at room temperature, it will keep for 2-3 days. The popcorn will definitely lose its crunch the longer it sits.
It’s sweet, salty, crunchy, sticky and the best snack for snuggling up with the fam on a Friday night to watch a movie. Marshmallow popcorn is a snack your family will love!

Just made this and followed the recipe, though I typically us the stove, so did go that route. I normally use only butter and marshmallow, but had to see what the addition of brown sugar would do for taste. Have to say it looks a bit like caramel corn, but the taste isn’t for me. I’ve lost the marshmallow flavor I love and it is too sweet. Just my humble opinion.
Hi Lori! Thank you for the feedback!
So Im muslim and I had to use halal marshmallows and they have more of a harder texture and have a fruity taste, though when I tried this it tasted exactly like caramel corn but with a crunch and it was amazing thank you!
Oh that actually sounds so good! I’ll have to look into finding some to try!
Added a shake or two of cinnamon to the marshmallow mix before pouring and it was divine.
Ronnie!!! That is genius! I bet it was a little like a cinnamon roll. Holy yum!
